Career & Technology Academy
Program Overview
Luzerne County Community College is excited to announce the creation of the LCCC Career & Technology Academy - an innovative educational program designed to expand opportunities for students from local high school Career & Technical Centers (CTC) to pursue college courses and career pathways at LCCC.
Our Funding Partners
Private support for the program includes the William Rinaldi $100,000 Career & Technology Scholarship Program and $50,000 from the Joseph Yudichak Career Pathways Scholarship of the Luzerne Foundation. Public support is being sought through the U.S. Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. For more information on creating scholarship opportunities for the LCCC Career and Technology Academcy contact Rebecca Brominski, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, 570-740-0730.
Program Benefits
Students from local CTC's will enroll in college courses that align with their individual high school CTC program. LCCC's hands-on learning environment provides exposure to a variety of career pathways such as: Welding / Electrical Technology / Plumbing / HVAC / Culinary/ Early Childhood Education. Focusing on high demand, high wage careers, the LCCC Career & Technology Academy will serve as the best pathway for area high school students to build their own future while meeting the demands of a 21st century economy in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Workforce Demand
Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania employers are struggling to find qualified, skilled workers. The Post Secondary Workforce Credential Gap Analysis (PA) revealed that in 2023 there was a total shortage of 61,000 credentialed workers in Pennsylvania and specific workforce gap of 12,200 in trade, maintenance, and repair cluster. To eliminate the work-force credential gap, Pennsylvania must increase postsecondary education attainment by 4.4 percent.
Our Education Partners
In partnership with the Hazleton Area Career Center, the Wilkes-Barre Area Career & Tech-nical Center, and the West Side Career & Technical Center, the LCCC Career & Technology Academy will give more than 2,000 high school CTC students the opportunity to earn col-lege credits toward a certification, diploma, or degree in a career and technology program at Luzerne County Community College.
