Luzerne County Community College will once again serve as the host site for the District 1 SkillsUSA Regional Competition on Thursday, January 8, welcoming hundreds of high school students from across Northeastern Pennsylvania. The event brings together students from career and technical centers to compete in more than 30 skilled trade and technical competitions, including welding, automotive technology, electrical construction, culinary arts, and other in-demand career fields. Often described as “the Olympics of the trades,” SkillsUSA showcases the best of the best in technical education and workforce preparation.

Luzerne County Community College is proud to support WVIA PBS’s Scholastic Scrimmage, a long-standing academic quiz show that celebrates excellence, teamwork, and intellectual achievement among high school students across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Scholastic Scrimmage brings together top students in grades 9–12 to compete across a wide range of academic disciplines. The fast-paced competition rewards knowledge, quick thinking, and collaboration—values that align closely with LCCC’s mission as Your Community College. New episodes air Thursday nights at 7 p.m. on WVIA TV.

Luzerne County Community College invites the community to experience the 2026 Faculty & Alumni Art Exhibition, on view in the Schulman Gallery from January 23 through February 20, 2026. This annual exhibition showcases original works in a wide range of media created by LCCC faculty, staff, and alumni, highlighting the creativity and talent within the College community. An Opening Reception will be held on Friday, January 23, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., featuring light refreshments and live piano music in the Gallery. (Snow date: Monday, January 26, 6:00–8:00 p.m.) Admission is free and open to the public.

An innovative educational program designed to expand opportunties for area high school students from local high school Career & Technical Centers to pursue college courses and career pathways at LCCC.

Luzerne County Community College (LCCC), Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania (CU), and Hazleton Area School District (HASD) are launching an educational partnership in Fall 2025 to tackle Pennsylvania's critical teacher shortage, where over 5,500 vacancies exist amidst declining education degree enrollments and record teacher attrition.

The Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) has approved Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) to operate one of Pennsylvania’s newest Act 120 Municipal Police Academies. The academy will be housed at LCCC’s Public Safety Training Institute in Nanticoke and will begin in spring 2026, offering two cohorts of 25 cadets each.
