Celebrating Our Centers: Scranton Extension Center

A Decade of Access, Opportunity, and Community Impact*

All December, Luzerne County Community College is proud to celebrate the centers that bring education closer to the communities we serve. This year, we are especially excited to mark a major milestone --the 10th anniversary of the LCCC Scranton Extension Center, located in the Marketplace at Steamtown Mall in the heart of downtown Scranton.

Since opening its doors a decade ago, the Scranton Center has become a vital hub for higher education in Lackawanna County, providing students with affordable, high-quality learning opportunities close to home. Over the past ten years, countless students have launched their academic journeys here รข?? earning degrees, transferring to four-year institutions, and advancing their careers.

The Scranton Center's success is rooted in its strong community connections and its commitment to meeting learners where they are. From recent high school graduates to adult learners returning to the classroom, the Center has helped open doors and create pathways to success for students of all backgrounds.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are also looking ahead to an exciting future. Plans are underway to expand academic offerings and deepen community partnerships, including a potential "Teach in NEPA" initiative. This proposed program would support Early Childhood Education majors while addressing the growing need for qualified teachers across Northeastern Pennsylvania -- strengthening local classrooms and shaping brighter futures for our region's children.

The Scranton Center also proudly supports adult learners through its GED preparation program, offered in partnership with LCCC's KEYS Department. Looking forward, the Center aims to welcome even more ESL (English as a Second Language) students, continuing its mission to provide inclusive resources that empower learners at every stage of life.

The next decade promises new partnerships, expanded opportunities, and continued dedication to transforming lives through education.

Here's to 10 years of success -- and to the next 10 years of learning, growth, and community impact at Luzerne County Community College's Scranton Extension Center.
