To be eligible for scholarships, applicants must have a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher, unless indicated otherwise.

Things you will need to apply...

At least one (1) letter of recommendation - faxed to 740-0739, e-mailed to foundation@luzerne.edu or mailed to the LCCC Foundation, Inc. 1333 S Prospect Street, Nanticoke, PA 18634.

Submit a 300-500 word essay describing your educational and career goals. Some suggestions for writing your essay include: list important events that have taken place in your life, write about your personal accomplishments and your strengths, indicate extenuating circumstances, if any; describe influential people that helped make a difference in your view of life/education. This essay provides applicants the opportunity to describe themselves and explain unique goals, characteristics and perspectives of educational, career and life goals.

Scholarship applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to submitting your application.

Albert Wasley Memorial Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established in 2002 by the LCCC Board of Trustees in memory of Mr. Albert Wasley, former Luzerne County Community College Trustee. Applicant must be a graduate of a Luzerne County high school and demonstrate outstanding high school or college academic achievement and good character. Include a copy of your score from the college assessment test or college standard aptitude test (SAT).

Charles Gelso, Esquire Memorial Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established in 2002 by the LCCC Board of Trustees in memory of Atty. Charles Gelso, former College Trustee. Applicant must be a graduate of a Luzerne County high school, demonstrate good character and show outstanding academic achievement. Include a copy of your score from the college assessment test or college standard aptitude test (SAT).

Dental Hygiene Association Academic Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Northeast Pennsylvania Dental Hygiene Association. Applicant must be entering his or her second year of the Dental Hygiene Curriculum, demonstrate scholastic aptitude and the potential for success in the field of dental hygiene and be a member of the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association.

Dr. James M. Toole Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established by the LCCC Board of Trustees in 1991. Applicant must show outstanding academic potential as measured by high school grades and scores on the college assessment test. Applicant should apply in the spring semester (prior to their first semester at LCCC) for award in the fall. Include a copy of your score from the college assessment test or college standard aptitude test (SAT).

Dr. Richard A. Alley Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established in 1996 by Dr. Richard A. Alley, former LCCC Trustee. Applicant must demonstrate humanitarianism, academic achievement, and have unmet financial need. Applicant must have earned 12 - 40 credits, be enrolled in at least six credits per semester and have a commitment to volunteerism.

Frank '06 & Lisa '96 Owens
G.P.A. Required: G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established in 2015 by the LCCC Alumni Association Board, this scholarship is in recognition of Frank & Lisa Owens who were lifelong learners and dedicated more than a decade to the success of the LCCC Phonathon. Applicant must have earned at least 15 credits at LCCC at the time of application; be active in college or community activities; and maintain a minimum of a 3.5 GPA. Award is open to those who are enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits the semester it is to be used. Special consideration will be given to students who have volunteered for the Phonathon or other alumni activities. Applicant must have unmet financial need.

Frank P. Crossin Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established by the LCCC Board of Trustees in memory of Mr. Crossin, former County Commissioner and College Trustee. Applicant must be a graduate of a Luzerne County high school and show strong academic potential. The award will cover tuition costs only for four consecutive semesters at LCCC. Include a copy of your score from the college assessment test or college standard aptitude test (SAT).

James M. Wachtler Endowment Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
James M. Wachtler, a former Luzerne County Community College Trustee, established this scholarship in 1978. Applicant must have academic potential as measured by the composite score from the college assessment test and high school record. Preference is given to applicants with unmet financial need. Include a copy of your score from the college assessment test or college standard aptitude test (SAT).

Luzerne County Community College Presidential Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established by the LCCC Board of Trustees in 1999 to recognize an outstanding graduate from each Luzerne County public high school. Applicant must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and show a commitment to extra-curricular activities during high school. Letters of recommendation must be from a guidance counselor or teacher.

The Joseph J. Kurpis Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established in 1990 by the LCCC Board of Trustees in memory of Joseph Kurpis, former College Trustee, for his dedicated service to the College and the community. Applicant must demonstrate good character and show outstanding high school or college academic achievement. The award will cover tuition costs only for two consecutive semesters at LCCC.


Community/School Involvement/Extra-Curricular Activities
Anna Cervenak Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2015. Applicant must enrolled full-time and have financial need. This scholarship is a living lasting memorial to her belief in helping others. Applicants must be involved in college or community activities.

Cross Valley Federal Credit Union /Ted Franchella Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2002 by the members of the Cross Valley Federal Credit Union in memory of Ted Franchella, a valued co-worker and friend. Applicant must be involved in community activities.

Filchak Community Service Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: GPA: 2.0 or higher
Established in 2016 by Ms. Son Ae Filchak. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates a strong commitment to community service and a desire to assist others. Letters of recommendation must be from a community member or organization and should explain your community service in detail.

First National Community Bank Scholarship
Established by First National Community Bank in 2001. Applicant must demonstrate good character and community or college involvement in extra-curricular activities.

George Mccutcheon Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established by the Student Government Association of Luzerne County Community College in recognition of George McCutcheon, former Director of Student Services, who dedicated sixteen years of service to students of the College. Applicant must have completed at least 30 semester hours at LCCC and be involved in college or community activities.

James Atherton Memorial Endowed Scholarhip
Endowed in 2015 through donations received from family and friends. Applicant must be involved in college or community activities.

LCCC Adult Learners' Association Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established in 2002 by the Adult Learners' Association through various fundraising initiatives. Applicant must have unmet financial need and be active in community service or college activities.

LCCC Alumni Association Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 semester hours at LCCC, be enrolled in full-time in the semester in which the scholarship is awarded, and demonstrate participation in community and/or campus activities. Prior recipients of this scholarship may not reapply.

Leonard '69 & Bernadine Shimko Scholarship
Established in 2017 by Len & Bernadine Shimko. Len is a member of the first graduating class of LCCC and President Emeritus of the LCCC Foundation Board of Directors. Applicants must have financial need and be active in community or college activities.

Student Government Association Leadership Award
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Applicant must have earned at least nine credits and have financial need and be involved in college and/or community activities.

Joseph Yudichak Career Pathway Scholarship
Established in 2017 by the Yudichak Family Lighthouse Fund of the Luzerne Foundation, the Joseph Yudichak Career Pathway Scholarship honors the life of an extraordinary man who served his country in the U.S. Navy, labored in the anthracite mines, became a construction superintendent, served as the Director of the Northeast Regional Equipment Center and continues to serve his hometown of Plymouth Township as a township supervisor. Joseph Yudichak exemplifies the spirit of the American worker whose work-ethic is rivaled only by his passion to continuously learn and develop new skills. The Joseph Yudichak Career Pathway Scholarship will assists with tuition, books and other educational related expenses for students with financial need enrolled in the Applied Technology and Skilled Trades programs. Joseph Yudichak, with his late wife Sally, raised eight children together and they were the inspiration for State Senator John Yudichak to create the Yudichak Family Lighthouse Fund of the Luzerne Foundation.

Established in 2013 by Mr. Ken Marquis. Applicant must be enrolled in Commercial Art and have financial need.


Curriculum - Automotive Technology Scholarships
Edward A. Novitski Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2006 by Lisa and Steve Novitski, this award is presented annually in memory of Edward A. Novitski. Applicant must be pursuing a degree in the Diesel Technology Program and also be active in college or community activities. Preference will be given to student with unmet financial need.

Joseph Amato Scholarship
Given annually by the JA Foundation. Applicant must be enrolled in an Automotive Technology field. This award is not based on financial need. One scholarship will be awarded to a female interested in the field.

Moroso Performance Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.75 or higher
This award was established in 2000 by Moroso Performance Products, one of the word's most respected suppliers of automotive equipment for racing and street performance applications. Recipient must be a second year student in an Automotive Technology Program.

MotorWorld Toyota Scholarship
Established in 2015 by MotorWorld Toyota. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the Automotive and Diesel Technology Program. Applicants can be full or part-time.

Nep - AACA - Anitque Automobile Club Association Scholarship
Established in 2000 by the members of the regional chapter of the AACA to benefit a student in LCCC's Automotive Program. Applicant must have completed 15 credits in the Automotive Technology curriculum and be in good academic standing.

Nep - AACA - Nancy Boback Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2007 in memory of Nancy Boback, by the members of the regional chapter of the AACA to benefit a student in LCCC's Automotive Program. Applicant must have completed 15 credits in the Automotive Technology curriculum and be in good academic standing.

The Daniel W. & Sophie Beynon Memorial
Established in 2000 by Sandra Beynon Nicholas, Executive Director, LCCC Foundation. Applicant must have unmet financial need. First preference will be given to a student enrolled in the Automotive curriculum.


Curriculum - Broadcast Communications
Chester Sawicki Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2003 by David J. Sawicki, Director, Business & Industry Education at LCCC in honor of his father. Applicant must be enrolled in the Broadcast Communications curriculum and have a strong commitment to learning the field. Letters of reference from instructors should express applicant's potential in the Broadcast Communications field.


Curriculum - Business Field Scholarships
Albert B. Melone Co. Certified Public Accountants Scholarship
Established by Albert B. Melone Co. Certified Public Accountants in 2014. Applicants must have financial need. First preference will be given to a student enrolled in a Business Curriculum.

Basil Senyk Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was endowed in 2009 through gifts from Dr. Michael Senyk and Nadine Senyk Miedreich as well as family and friends in memory Basil Senyk and to honor his lifelong commitment to education and his generous spirit. Mr. Senyk was a faculty member in the LCCC Business Department for 32 years. He was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus upon his retirement after which he continued to teach part time and be a mentor to his students and leader in his profession. Applicant must be majoring in a business curriculum and preference will be given to students with financial need.

Beverly A. Smith Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2008 by husband Robert J. and son Robert A. Smith in memory of their beloved wife and mother, Beverly. This scholarship will benefit an LCCC Student pursuing a career in the field of business.

Cook's Pharmacy of Kingston Business Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Cook's Pharmacy of Kingston. Applicants must be enrolled in a Business Curriculum and have financial need.

Dorothea B. Mccutcheon Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1984 by George and Dorothea McCutcheon. Applicant must be a full-time, second-year Office Management Technology student entering his or her final year of the program and be involved in extracurricular activities.

John Thomas Sedlak Scholarship
Established in 2009 by John Thomas Sedlak, Dean of Human Resources at Luzerne County Community College. Applicant must be enrolled in a Business Program of Study. First preference will be to a student with the desire to work in the Human Resources area promoting employee advocacy and leadership. Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 credits and have financial need. A 3.0 G.P.A. is required and one letter of recommendation from an LCCC faculty member must be submitted with the scholarship application. Applicant must be available for an interview.

Marquis Art & Frame Business Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Mr. Ken Marquis. Applicant must be enrolled in a Business Curriculum and have financial need.

Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1998 by Robert K. Mericle and endowed in 2000. Applicant must have completed nine college credits prior to applying for this award and be enrolled in a business course of study. Special consideration will be given to students who are currently working in the Real Estate profession. First preference will be given to students with financial need.

National Association of Purchasing Managers/Basil Senyk Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2007 and endowed in 2009 by the members of the National Association of Purchasing Managers, Northeast PA, in memory of Basil Senyk, C.P.M. Professor Emeritus at LCCC. Applicants must be enrolled in a business curriculum and have completed at least 24 credits. First preference will be given to students with financial need.

Robert J. Manganiello Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2016 by Mrs. Mary Claire Manganiello. Applicants must be a female pursuing a degree in a Business curriculum. Applicants must have financial need.

Sylvia A. Senyk Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established and endowed in 2002 by the late Basil Senyk in memory of his wife, Sylvia A. Senyk. Applicant must have 30 credits toward a business related degree in areas of paralegal, international business, health care administration, purchasing in the Business Administration or Business Technology Curriculum. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

Wells Fargo Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1998. Applicant must be enrolled in any one of the following curricula: Accounting Technology, Banking, Business Administration, Business Management Technology, Computer Science, Computer Systems Technology or International Business.


Curriculum - Computer Information Systems
Computer Information Systems Scholarship
Established in 2012 by the Computer Information Systems Department. Applicant must be enrolled in either the AS or AAS Computer Information Systems curriculum, must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours at LCCC, be enrolled in at least 12 credits in the semester in which the scholarship is awarded. First preference will be given to students who actively participate in the Computer Club.


Curriculum - Criminal Justice
Eric J. Williams '99 Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Donald and Jean Williams in memory of their son, Eric, who was killed in the line of duty as a Federal corrections officer. Eric was a graduate of Luzerne County Community College and King's College. First preference for this scholarship is to a student pursuing a career in Criminal Justice. Applicants must have financial need.


Curriculum - Education
Gregory A. Runner Memorial Endowed Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.0 or higher
This scholarship is established and endowed in 2007 by William A., Jr. & Joanne M. Runner in memory of their beloved son, Greg. The scholarship will benefit a LCCC student pursuing courses in special education or developmental studies. The student should have unmet financial need, and first preference will be given to veterans of the U.S. Armed Services.

Robert A Janosov Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2006 by wife Teddi M. Janosov, family, friends and colleagues. The award is in memory of Professor Emeritus Robert A. Janosov, for his commitment of 35 years to Luzerne County Community College and the History of our region. Applicant must have a career interest in the field of Education with a concentration in History and demonstrate an involvement in the community. Applicant must be entering their second year and have a 2.5 GPA while enrolled at LCCC. Applicants must not be the recipient of financial aid. Obtain one letter of recommendation from and LCCC instructor and two letters from community members (non family).


Curriculum - Emergency Medical Services / Fire Safety Technology / Paramedic
Thomas Gusher, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1998 by friends and family of the late Thomas Gusher, an LCCC graduate who dedicated his life to helping others survive and recover from medical problems. Applicant must be enrolled in the EMS program and demonstrate community volunteerism and humanitarianism. Preference will be given to an active volunteer fire fighter.


Curriculum - Fire Science Technology
The Charlton (Fred) Kase, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.0 or higher
Established in 2011 in memory of Fred Kase by his wife, Sandra Mihoch Kase and family, the Columbian Volunteer Fire Department, and friends. Applicant must be a second year student majoring in Fire Science or Health Emergency Medical Services, have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher and have financial need. First preference will be given to a student who has or had service as a volunteer firefighter, paramedic and/or first responder.


Curriculum - Health Care Curriculum Scholarships
Abraham and Anna Neddoff Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Established in 1998 by Dr. Jane Brown, former Director of Nursing at LCCC, in memory of her parents. Applicant must be entering their second year of LCCC's Nursing program. Applicant must demonstrate an exemplary understanding of the curriculum and clinical setting, and have a compassionate and caring manner during interaction with clients as reported on the student's clinical behavior evaluation record.

Angela M. Parrella Memorial Scholarship
This award was established and endowed in 2003 by Ms. Rosella Fedor in memory of her aunt, Angela M. Parrella. Applicant must be an adult learner/non-traditional student entering their second year of the LCCC Nursing program and be in good academic standing. Special consideration will be given to students showing dedication and strong work ethic.

Angeline Elizabeth Kirby Memorial Health Center Scholarship
Established in 2016 by the Board of Directors of the Angeline Elizabeth Kirby Memorial Health Center. Applicants must be enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program.

Angeline Elizabeth Kirby Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2003 by the Board of Directors of the Angeline Elizabeth Kirby Memorial Health Center. Applicant must be enrolled in the Nursing program and have financial need.

Ann Marie Martz Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2012 by Mr. Gregory Martz in memory of his beloved grandmother. Applicant must be a resident of the Greater Berwick area who is pursuing a degree in Nursing and have financial need.

Appleseed Foundation Scholarship
Established in 2015 by the Appleseed Partnership Foundation for a Greater Wyoming Valley. Applicants must be a freshmen and accepted into the Nursing program. Applicants must be a Luzerne County resident with an interest in post graduation work in health care in Luzerne County for a minimun of two years. Award will cover in-county tuition, books and fees for four consecutive semesters.

Back Mountain Dental Scholarship
Established in 2012 by Dr. James DeFinnis. Applicant must be enrolled in the Dental Hygiene or Dental Assisting program and have financial need.

Bernadine K. Judge Memorial Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.0 or higher
Established in 2007 by Patrick Judge and his two sons, Timothy and Patrick, Jr. Applicants must be enrolled in their second year of the Nursing program, demonstrate a genuine caring and empathetic attitude, be an active volunteer in the community or college and have financial need. First preference will be given to a resident of the Swoyersville area.

Blue Cross Of Northeastern Pennsylvania Endowed Scholarship
Established and endowed in 1998. Applicant must be enrolled in one of the following programs of study: Business Administration, Health Care Management, Accounting Technology, Business Management Technology, Health Care Management, Information System Technology, Nursing, Office Management Technology, Medical Office Assistant/Transcriptionist.

Courtney L. Engle Memorial Endowed Scholarships
Established in 2011 by friends and family of Courtney. Applicants must be enrolled in a Health Care Curriculum at LCCC, have financial need be active in the community or college activities.

Cynthia and Peter Mahalick Endowed Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2012 by Mrs. Cynthia Mahalick in memory of her beloved husband, Peter Mahalick. Applicants must be enrolled in a Health Care Curriculum and have financial need.

David W. Kistler, M.D. Scholarship
Presented by the Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center Staff to honor Dr. David Kistler and thank him for his many years of service as chief of staff. Applicant must be a freshman student who is a resident of Luzerne County and is studying toward a career in a health care related field. Grades, student's character, community involvement and accomplishments will be given special consideration in selecting the recipient.

Dental Health Alumni Day Scholarship
Established in 2014. This scholarship is made possible through the proceeds of the annual Dental Health Alumni Day which is an educational program for LCCC dental health graduates and area professionals. To be considered the applicant must have completed 15 credits at LCCC and be enrolled in one of the following: Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Expanded Functions Dental Assisting or Dental Practice Management.

Dental Hygiene Association Financial Need Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Northeast Pennsylvania Dental Hygiene Association, a professional association that promotes continuing education, networking, placement and professionalism in the field of dental hygiene. Applicant must be entering his or her second year of the Dental Hygiene Curriculum and be a member of the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association.

Dr. Cornelia Tengowski Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Dr. Cornelia and Mr. Thomas Tengowski. Applicant must have a minimum of 15 credits earned and be enrolled in a Health Care Program of Study or a Science Program of Study and have a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Evans Eye Care Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Dr. David Evans. Applicant must be enrolled in a Health Science field of study, be active in community or college activities and have financial need.

Frances E. Rick Memorial Endowed Nursing Scholarship
Established in 1990 by the late Carl J. Rick in memory of his wife, Frances E. Rick. Applicant must be entering their first year of the Nursing program. Students who have not been officially accepted into the Nursing program by the scholarship application deadline may also apply. Applicant must be enrolled full-time, be involved in school, community or career activities and a resident of Luzerne County.

Francis S. & Mary Gill Carrozza, R.N. Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2013 by Mr. Francis S. Carrozza. Applicants must be enrolled in a Health Sciences Program of Study and have financial need.

Genna M. Kundratic Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Kevin and daughter Julia Kundratic in memory of Genna, beloved wife and mother. Applicant must be a first year Nursing student, have financial need and is active in his/her community. Applicants must be willing to attend a dinner in August hosted by the Kundratic family which is held to raise funds for future scholarships.

JLW Mountain Laurel Lions Scholarship
Established in 2010. Applicant must be a resident of Luzerne County, be involved in a volunteer or service organization, either in school or the community where they live and have financial need.

Kathryn Theresa O'Haire Musto Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2012 by Kenneth J. Musto in memory of his beloved wife. Applicants must be enrolled in a Health Care Curriculum, be active in his/her community and/or college and have financial need.

Margaret Lawrence Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2011 by the Lawrence family. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in a field of Health Care; have financial need; be active in their college and/or community; and have at least 24 credits completed at the time of award.

Mary Erwine Endowed Nursing Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2014 by Mary Erwine, owner Erwine Home Health & Hospice, Inc. Applicant must be an adult learner/non-traditional student entering their second year of the LCCC Nursing program and be in good academic standing. Special consideration will be given to students showing dedication and strong work ethic. Applicant must have financial need.

Melissa Brown Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2016 by memorial gifts from family and friends of Melissa Brown and endowed by parents, Tim and Mary Brown. Applicants must be a second year Nursing student and actively participate in community life.

Peter & Ida Lello Memorial Scholarship

Stephen G. Semanek Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2012 by friends and family through a benefit in memory of Stephen. Applicant must be enrolled in a Health Science curriculum, be active in his/her community and have financial need.

The Lisa J. Rowley Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 through the generosity of the friends of Lisa J. Rowley, who served the College for seventeen years as a faculty member and director of the dental health department. Through her dedication, perseverance and determination the dental health programs became a strong, well-respected asset to the College and dental community. Scholarship selection is based on demonstrated financial need and the ability to genuinely care about people.

The Ruth And Sidney Seeherman Memorial Endowed Nursing Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established in 1990 by son, Howard and daughter, Judith and the LCCC Nursing Forum in memory of Ruth Seeherman who was LCCC's Director of Nursing from 1983 to 1993. Applicant must have successfully completed their first year of the Nursing program and be employed at least 20 hours or more per week. Special consideration given to applicants involved in school, community, or career activities.

Verne & William R. Gelatko Memorial Scholarship
Loree Gerich, member of the Nursing faculty, presents this award annually in memory of her father, William R. Gelatko. Applicant must be a second semester student who has completed Nursing 101, demonstrates a genuine caring and empathetic attitude to their clinical clients, shows a strong ability to perform nursing skills and participate or volunteer with college, community or civic organizations.

Wyoming Valley Health Care Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996 by the medical staff of Wyoming Valley Health Care Systems. The award will benefit a second year student in the Nursing program at LCCC.

Mary E. Brezinski Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Brezinski family in 1999 in memory of Mary E. Brezinski, an LCCC faculty member who taught aerobics for 30 years. Applicant must be enrolled in a Health, Physical Education & Movement Sciences curriculum and exhibit dedication to the field. One letter of recommendation is required from an LCCC faculty member in the Physical Education department.

Ruby Carmon Endowed Scholarship
Endowed through the Ruby Carmon Golf Tournament organized by the Physical Education faculty. Applicant must be enrolled in the Recreational Leadership and Physical Education Program at LCCC and demonstrate involvement in the community or college activities as volunteers.

Bedwick Family Endowed Scholarship
Applicant must be a graduate of the Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational Technical School and enrolled in the Hotel & Restaurant Management curriculum in the fall semester following graduation. This award is based on academic achievement.

Jacqueline Senyk Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2013 by Dr. Michael Senyk in memory of his beloved wife, Jacqueline. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the LCCC Culinary Arts Curriculum and have a g.p.a. of 2.5 or higher and have financial need.

James P. Malkames Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 credits at LCCC and be enrolled in the Hotel and Restaurant program. Special consideration will be given to students working in the hotel or restaurant management field and involved in extra-curricular activities.

Joseph A. Irma Paglianite/Grotto Pizza Culinary Arts Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a first-year culinary student who shows a definite interest in culinary arts through prior work or life experience and who originates from the greater Wyoming Valley Area.

Rachel Wolfe Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2012 by the Pastry Arts club. Applicant must be enrolled in LCCC's Pastry Arts program and demonstrate community involvement. Preference will be given to those who show service to their faith.

Richard J. Nemetz Scholarship
Established in 2006 in memory of Richard Nemetz who had a great love of baking and cooking. He was a pillar of strength in his church and community. This award is sponsored by the LCCC Pastry Arts Club and his son, Richard Nemetz. Applicant must be enrolled in the Pastry Arts curriculum, be involved in community activities and have financial need. GPA requirement is 2.5 or higher.

Sameer I. Murarka Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2014 by Dr. Ishwar P. Murarka in memory of his beloved son, Sameer through the Sameer Ishwar Memorial Foundation. Awarded to a second year student enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have financial need. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the Culinary Arts Department. Scholarship covers the cost of tuition, books and fees for two consecutive semesters at Luzerne County Community College.

The Woodlands Inn & Resort Scholarship
Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 credits at LCCC, be enrolled in the Hotel and Restaurant program and show a strong potential to achieve in this field.

Wayne Schmoll Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2007 by Keyco Distributors, Inc., Polar Bear Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Inc. and Maitre D'Foods, Inc. by Chef John Hudak. This scholarship is in memory of Wayne Schmoll, Keyco's Outlet Store Supervisor for 22 years, who passed away after a battle with diabetes. Students must be enrolled in the Hotel Restaurant Management curriculum and demonstrate involvement in the field by being willing to join the Chef's Association and attend the Keyco Food Show. One letter of recommendation must come from an instructor in the Hotel Restaurant Management curriculum.

Established and endowed in 2013 through the estate of Elaine Lyons. Ms. Lyons was an associate professor and coordinator of human services at Luzerne County Community College. Applicant must be pursuing a degree in Human Services and have financial need.

John Charles Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2007 by John Charles to benefit a student interested in a career in assisting mentally challenged individuals. Applicants must have an interest in special education, counseling mentally challenged individuals or Nursing specializing in caring for mentally challenged individuals.

Established in 1992 by the parents of the late Jon Outt, a former LCCC Journalism student. Applicant must be entering their second year of the Journalism program and participate in volunteer/ extra-curricular activities.

Established in 2002 by friends and family of Rob Sager. Applicant must be enrolled in the Journalism program at LCCC and assist with the publication of the student newspaper.

Donald A. Whitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established in 2011 by Daniel Z. Whitt in memory of his beloved father, Donald A. Whitt '84. Applicant must be an incoming freshman enrolled in the Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Technology Program. Applicant must have financial need and answer the following questions in his/her essay. Why did you choose this profession; why did you choose to attend LCCC and who is the most influential person in your life and why.


Curriculum - Tech Prep
Northeastern Pennsylvania Tech Prep Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2001 by the Northeastern PA Tech Prep Consortium. Awarded to a high school senior in the consortium who has completed a PDE approved Tech Prep program and plans to enroll in a similar program at one of the following: LCCC; Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Scranton or Hazleton; Lackawanna College; Keystone College; Johnson College, or a registered apprenticeship program. Applicant must have successfully completed all of the academic and technical requirements in their secondary Tech Prep curriculum and show proof of acceptance to a member post-secondary institution for the fall semester.

Established by the LCCC Alumni Association in 1993 in memory of Abigail M. George, a dedicated volunteer and graduate of Luzerne County Community College. Applicant must be enrolled full-time and have earned at least 12 credits at the time of application, be involved in college or community activities and have unmet financial need.

Albert Floruss Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2003 by Lisa and Frank Owens in memory of Mrs. Owen's father, Albert Floruss. Applicant must demonstrate strong community or college involvement in extra-curricular activities and have unmet financial need.

Albert P. Nicholas Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2003 by Sandra A. Nicholas, Executive Director LCCC Foundation, Inc., family and friends in memory of Mr. Albert P. Nicholas. Applicant must be enrolled in a degree-bearing program and have unmet financial need.

Barbara Struckus Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2010 by friends and family of the late Barbara Struckus. Barbara is an LCCC graduate and dedicated her career to LCCC until her retirement. This award is offered to a full-time student who has financial need.

Choice One Federal Credit Union Scholarship
Established in 2002 by John Kebles, President of the credit union, to assist students who have unmet financial need. Applicant must be enrolled in a degree-bearing program at LCCC and demonstrate community involvement.

Christine Cummings Pugh Endowed Scholarship
Established by Thomas Pugh in honor of his wife, Chris. Applicant must be active in his/her community and have financial need.

Cross Valley Federal Credit Union/Joan Oplinger Scholarship
Established in 1996 by The Cross Valley Federal Credit Union. Applicant must have earned between 12 and 40 credits at LCCC, be enrolled in at least six credits per semester and have a commitment to volunteerism.

Dorothy Sawicki Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2014 by David Sawicki, Director of Business Solutions & Customized Training, LCCC in memory of his beloved mother, Dorothy. Applicant must be active in his/her community and have financial need.

Fortinsky Family Endowed Scholarship
Endowed in 2003 by Robert A. & Shirley Fortinsky through the Fortinsky Charitable Foundation, Inc. Applicant must have unmet financial need and be in good academic standing.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Endowed Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2014 by the IBEW Local Union 163. Applicants must be pursuing an Associate's degree and have financial need.

LCCC Foundation Scholars Awards/Medico Family Endowment
Endowed through the Medico Scholarship Golf Tournaments and funded through the Foundation's annual fund raising activities. Applicant must be in good academic standing and have unmet financial need. Special consideration will be given to students with extenuating or personal circumstances.

Mary Leary Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2008 by Thomas P. Leary, President LCCC, and friends and family, in memory of Mary Leary. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is active in college activities and has financial need.

Naacp Student Chapter Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
This award was established in 2008 by the students of the Luzerne County Community College NAACP Student Chapter. Applicants must be active in the community and have unmet financial need. First preference will be given to a student who is active in the NAACP.

Paul J. Rushin Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2003 by Mary Jo Rushin, in memory of her husband Paul. Applicant must be a resident of Luzerne County and have unmet financial need.

PPL Endowed Scholarship
Endowed in 2005 through donations received by PPL Electric Utilities. Applicant must be a resident of Luzerne County, be in good academic standing and have unmet financial need. Applicant should be active in community and/or college activities.

Tambur Family Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2010 by the Tambur Family. Applicants must be a resident of Luzerne County entering their second year, pursuing a bachelor's degree and attending full-time.

The Citizens' Voice Endowed Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
Established and endowed in 2013 by The Citizens' Voice. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time and part-time students who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success and who have a demonstrated financial need. First preferences shall be given to newspaper carriers, employees, and children of employees of The Citizens? Voice, The Scranton Times, The Tribune, and local radio station affiliates of Times Shamrock Communications. Candidates must self-identify and shall be required to verify their eligibility with The Citizens? Voice through an application form provided by the company. Each scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year and shall not be renewed.

Applicant must have completed a minimum of 15 semester hours at LCCC, be enrolled in 6-11 credits in the semester in which the scholarship is awarded, and demonstrate participation in community and/or campus activities.

Crahall Foundation Endowed Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Endowed in 2004 through a gift from the Crahall Foundation. For academic pursuits in the Business, Information Technology, Visual Communications or Fine Arts/Music curriculum. First priority will be to Native Americans. Applicants should demonstrate involvement in community activities. Employment status and extenuating personal circumstances will be given special consideration. Applicant must have financial need.

Degenstein Endowed Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.0 or higher
Established and endowed in 2007, the Degenstein Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a student who is attending the Shamokin Branch Campus of LCCC and has financial need.

First Federal Bank Charitable Foundation Endowed Scholarship
This award was endowed in 2002 by the First Federal Bank Charitable Foundation to benefit an LCCC student residing in the Hazleton area enrolled in a degree-bearing curriculum at Luzerne County Community College. First preference will be a student with unmet financial need.

Getha & Isadore Edelstein Scholarship
Established and endowed in 2003 through a trust donation from the Getha & Isadore Edelstein estate. Applicant must be a graduate of the Greater Hazleton Area School District and be in good academic standing.

Jack & Constance Wheary Endowment
Established in 2010 by Jack & Constance Wheary to benefit students from the LCCC Shamokin Campus. Applicant must be enrolled in a health care related career program or Nursing curriculum at the Luzerne County Community College Northumberland Regional Center. Students must demonstrate a strong motivation toward success and have financial need.

James A. Brennan Memorial/Kingston Rotary Endowment Scholarship
Applicant must be a graduate of the Wyoming Valley West School District and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and involvement in the community.

Kulpmont Nursing Forum
Established in 2012 by the "Class of 2013" Kulpmont Nursing Forum. Applicants must be entering their second semester in the LCCC Kulpmont Nursing Program. Applicants must be actively involved in the Kulpmont Nursing Forum and participate in activities and events. Class attendance and clinical performance is taken into consideration. Applicants should provide one personal letter of recommendation and one professional letter of recommendation.

Lackawanna Career and Technology Center Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Applicant must demonstrate good character and involvement in extra-curricular activities. Letters of recommendation must be from a guidance counselor or teacher.

LCCC Foundation Wilkes-Barre Center Scholarship
Established in 2014 by the LCCC Foundation, Inc. One full-time and one part-time scholarship is available to applicants attending classes at the Luzerne County Community College Wilkes-Barre Center. Applicants must be in good academic standing.

Margaret & Harry Williams Endowed Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 3.5 or higher
This scholarship was endowed in 2008 through a gift from the estate of Margaret & Harry Williams. Applicant must be a graduate of the Hanover Area High School, be a member of the National Honor Society and be active in the community. Letter of recommendation must be obtained by a Hanover Area High School guidance counselor. This scholarship covers the cost of tuition, books and fees.

Misericordia University Endowed Scholarship
Applicant must be entering their graduating year at LCCC and has committed to enrolling at Misericordia University following graduation.

Plains Lions Club Scholarship
Applicant must be a resident of Plains Borough and enrolled in at least 12 credits at LCCC. Preference will be given to a student with unmet financial need.

Ronnie Witt Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1998 by Ronnie Witt, former director of the College Bookstore, in honor of her 30th year of employment at LCCC. Applicant must be a full-time student enrolled in at least 12 credits. Applicant must demonstrate academic potential and reside in Plains Borough.


Special Circumstances
Christopher L. Buongiorno, Esquire Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.0 - 2.9
Established in 2009 by Christopher L. Buongiorno, Esquire. This scholarship is to benefit an incoming freshman whose minimal efforts in their high school education did not afford him/her the opportunity to qualify for other scholarships. The spirit behind the award is to provide some financial assistance to those individuals that are not going to allow the past get in the way of the future. Student must be an incoming freshman and have financial need or extenuating personal circumstances.

Frank S. Agati Endowment Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established in 1967 by the Agati family, in memory of the late Frank S. Agati. This is the first endowed scholarship at Luzerne County Community College. Applicant must be a single parent with primary custodial and financial responsibility of his/her child(ren), and the head of household. Special consideration is given to those with extenuating personal circumstances; applicant must be enrolled in at least six credits per semester.

Julia M. Novitski Memorial Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established in 2000 by Lisa and Steve Novitski, this award is presented annually in memory of Julia M. Novitski. Applicant must be a single parent pursuing an Associates Degree at LCCC and participate in college or community activities. Preference will be given to students with unmet financial need.

Patrick J. Santacroce Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2001 by friends, family and co-workers of the late Patrick J. Santacroce, former Dean of Community Services and Special Programs at LCCC. Applicant must have successfully completed 12 credits with at least 6 credits of developmental work courses at LCCC.

Paul H. Lauer, Jr. Scholarship
Established by the Cultural Heritage Council in memory of Paul H. Lauer Jr., to honor his unique artistic achievement and international community endeavors. Applicant must have at least 30 credits earned. Must be a Pennsylvania resident and demonstrate interest and achievement in at least one of the following areas: international folk art/design (enrollment in Commercial Art program); international / multi-cultural activities in the community and academic pursuit (enrollment in International Business Program); or study in another country (formal enrollment in a study abroad program).

Rose Allan Tucker Memorial Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
This annual scholarship is made possible through memorial donations from friends and an annual gift from Valerie Berzanski, daughter of the late Rose Allan Tucker. The scholarship was established in 1998 by Rose Tucker, former LCCC Trustee and Luzerne County Commissioner to support a student a single parent. Applicants must be a single parent that has primary custodial and financial responsibility and is the head of household.

The Luzerne Foundation Endowed Scholarship
G.P.A. Required: 2.5 or higher
Established in 2002 by the Board of Directors of The Luzerne Foundation. Applicant must be a resident of Luzerne County and have overcome extenuating personal circumstances. Applicant must be involved in community and/or college activities.

T.E.A.C.H. Scholarships
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) have restored public funding to the T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship Program effective for the 2016 - 2017 fiscal year. Scholarships are available for upcoming semesters and retroactively for any semester beginning after July 1, 2016. PACCA offers a variety of T.E.A.C.H. Scholarships to meet the needs of the early care and education workforce.

The scholarship covers most of the cost for tuition and books. Recipients also receive a travel stipend each semester they are enrolled in class. T.E.A.C.H. requires that the sponsoring child care program offer paid release time for the student to attend class, study, or handle personal needs.
